Dear Friends and Colleagues:
Since Heartland Spine & Specialty Hospital opened our doors, we’ve been focused on creating the ideal hospital experience for our patients. Leading physician pioneers from several specialties built and opened the hospital in 2003. We’ve made important choices at every step along the way based on our commitment to the patient. We believe you’ll feel the difference on every level of care at Heartland.

The choices began with creating a patient-centered environment in our hospital. As you’ll learn in this issue, we’ve invested in the most powerful MRI equipment in the region, the 3.0 Tesla, to give more accurate diagnoses. The focus continues in our operating rooms, each of which has state-of-the-art equipment that allows our physicians and staff to do their best work. Our hospital rooms are designed to make patients and their families as comfortable as possible. We keep nurse-to-patient ratios low - on average one nurse for each three patients. Finally, we give our staff the time and tools they need to provide the best care they know how .
Heartland continues to make patient-centered choices in running our hospital. We seek out the most skilled and committed physicians and nursing staff in the area. Since 2003, Heartland has grown to include more than 80 physicians who specialize in orthopedics and pediatric orthopedics; bariatric weight loss surgery; ear, nose, and throat surgery; spine surgery; neurosurgery; hand surgery; joint reconstruction; general surgery; pain management and a full spectrum of plastic surgery procedures.
Our physicians have made wise choices in running our hospital. Our results show that our physicians’ choices have made a difference. Heartland keeps its infection rate exceptionally low – just 0.5 to 0.7 percent as compared to a much higher industry average. Our nurse turnover rate is at a record low.
Heartland has chosen to create the kind of environment in which we would like our own families to receive treatment. We think we’ve built a unique hospital, and we hope you’ll enjoy learning more about Heartland, our staff, and our physicians in upcoming issues.
